Susan L. DeWitt - A Very Courageous Woman

Today's post is courtesy of WhyIHateSmoking.com. So far, I've been featuring celebrities, actors, musicians, etc. who've died too soon, but after reading the post below, I realized that this blog can be so much more. There are everyday people just like you and me who are dying way too soon. Their lives should be celebrated just as much and sometimes more than celebrities. The post below is about a very courageous woman named Susan L. DeWitt. I've received permission from WhyIHateSmoking.com to publish the entire post as found here, so I'll let them tell you about her.

The following post is found at WhyIHateSmoking.com:

You know, I started this blog because I didn't like smoking and wanted to share the reasons why in hopes that some smokers would stop. What has happened now after a year is I truly do want to help people quit smoking for themselves and their families. I want you to watch the three videos below, and unless you are a robot, they have to affect you. Susan L. DeWitt was a beautiful woman who was a mother to a wonderful family and a devoted wife to her husband. At only 39 years of age, she was diagnosed with type IV lung cancer, which is basically a death sentence. She decided the moment she was diagnosed that she was going to start a foundation to help others stop smoking before it's too late. Susan was one heroic woman.

Don't let your life get cut short because of smoking. Stop now. Lung cancer is not a pleasant way to die. It's a very painful and slow death. That is not the way anyone wants to die, but if you choose to smoke, there's a better than average chance that's how you're going to die. For your kid's sake... For your husband/wife's sake... and most importantly, for your own sake, decide today to quit. If you'd like to donate to the Susan L. DeWitt Foundation for Extended Breath, visit their website at SusanLDeWitt.com.

Elvis Presley - Hound Dog

In regards to musicians who died too soon, Elvis Presley has to be at the top of the list. No one ever was or probably ever will be as popular as Elvis was in his prime. Throughout the coming months, I'll feature a lot of different songs and videos featuring Elvis. For today, I'm featuring my favorite song from Elvis - Hound Dog. R.I.P. Elvis...

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Remembering Kurt Cobain

Any time a talented artist or musician dies too young, it's a tragic loss. Kurt Cobain's suicide back in 1994 was a huge loss for music fans. Like so many others before him, Cobain had been wrestling with a heroin addiction for years, and it finally overtook him. But, during his lifetime, Cobain and the rest of the members of Nirvana played a huge part along with Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden in ushering in the age of grunge rock. The song that started it all was their biggest hit called Smells Like Teen Spirit. R.I.P. Kurt...

Heath Ledger As The Joker In The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger's passing earlier this year truly was a devastating blow to both Hollywood and the general population as a whole. He was a very talented actor whom I believe was just getting started. His portrayal of the Joker in this year's Batman flick, The Dark Knight was incredible. His transformation into the Joker was phenomenal. In the coming months, I'll share some other videos from Heath's career. R.I.P. Heath...

Jimi Hendrix Performs The Star Spangled Banner At Woodstock

Jimi Hendrix was one of the most flamboyant guitar players every to play the instrument. To this day, you can hear his songs Purple Haze and Hey Joe playing on classic rock stations every day. Jimi was taken away way too early in his life. He was only 27 years old when he died on September 18, 1970 from asphyxiation from his own vomit. It was a tragic loss for both music fans and the world alike. He was an unbelievably talented guitar player. Jimi showed off his guitar playing abilities during Woodstock back in 1969 when he played a version of the Star Spangled Banner. R.I.P. Jimi...

Blind Melon - No Rain Music Video - Remembering Shannon Hoon

Blind Melon burst onto the rock scene in 1992 when they released this song, No Rain, as a single. Like most people, when I hear this song on the radio, I immediately remember this video with the bumblebee girl dancing around. Sadly, Blind Melon's career ended about as fast as it began when lead singer Shannon Hoon was found dead in his tour bus of a cocaine overdose on October 21, 1995. Shannon was only 28 years old. R.I.P. Shannon...

John Belushi Smashes Guitar Scene From Animal House

Before Chris Farley, John Belushi was everybody's favorite comedic train wreck from Saturday Night Live fame. His most famous movie appearances were Blues Brothers and Animal House. This scene from Animal House is one of my favorites featuring Belushi in a toga smashing a guy's guitar in the stairway. R.I.P. John...

John Ritter - Three's Company Episode One

John Ritter was a very talented actor. He got his big break when he was cast as Jack Tripper on the 70's sitcom Three's Company. Sadly, Ritter died on September 11, 2003 of an aortic dissection caused by a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect. He was only 54 years old. Here's a look back at John at his best on Three's Company. R.I.P. John...

Chris Farley As Matt Foley - I Live In A Van Down By The River Skit From Saturday Night Live

Chris Farley was, and still is, my favorite comedian of all-time. Chris died way, way too young. He was only 33 years old. Eerily, he died at the same age as John Belushi, of the same thing (speed balling drug overdose) and in Chicago, Belushi's hometown. A tragic loss to be sure.

His Matt Foley skits on Saturday Night Live were the funniest skits I've ever seen. Here's the original Van Down By The River skit featuring Chris' good buddy David Spade along with the late Phil Hartman and Christina Applegate. R.I.P. Chris...
